At Corton CE Primary School & Nursery, Design and Technology (DT) encourages children to become creative problem-solvers, innovative thinkers, and resilient designers. Our curriculum provides pupils with real-world challenges, allowing them to design, build, and refine products that are both functional and imaginative. Through a structured progression of skills, children explore mechanisms, structures, textiles, electrical systems, and food technology, learning how design shapes the world around them.
Our Christian values of perseverance, responsibility, and collaboration underpin our approach to DT. Pupils are encouraged to think critically, take risks, and work as a team, developing the resilience needed to test, refine, and improve their work. Through hands-on experiences, children gain confidence in using tools, materials, and technology safely and effectively.
We ensure that our DT curriculum links with STEM subjects, enabling children to draw upon maths, science, and computing to develop their technical knowledge. By evaluating past and present technology, pupils gain a deeper understanding of sustainability, innovation, and responsible design, preparing them to contribute positively to the world as future designers, engineers, and inventors.
