Above and Beyond

At Corton Primary School we are dedicated to developing our children's cultural capital and giving them experiences above and beyond the National Curriculum. We encourage the children to understand what it is to be a global citizen and how we can impact the world around us.

Offering an extensive curriculum is key to the development of pupils as rounded and accomplished individuals. At Corton Primary School, our pupils can access a wide range of activities. These experiences might include talks with visiting speakers, trips to broaden their subject knowledge, clubs to encourage their interests, and higher up the school tailored support with their chosen high school. Going above and beyond the standard school curriculum is necessary for pupils to experience life to the full.

Phonics Workshop

November 2024 - Reception parents and carers were invited into class to find out more about the teaching of Phonics at our school. The workshop outlined what phonics is, how it helps the children with their early reading and writing and provided a range of ideas for activities that can be used to support the children at home. Thank you to all of the adults that attended the workshop and made this a great success! We hope you found it useful.

Children in Need

November 2024 - A massive thank you to everyone who donated—together, we raised an amazing £178! Every penny will go towards supporting children and young people in need across the UK. Pupils explored what kinds of things the money will be spent on and discussed what things they are grateful for.

Crucial Crew

November 2024 - Year 6 pupils attended a 'Crucial Crew' event, where they took part in several interactive and eye-opening sessions delivered by professionals.

The topics covered were invaluable, including:
* Fire safety
* Road and cycling safety
* Alcohol and drug awareness
* Anti-social behaviour awareness
* Staying safe online and using mobile devices

Year 6 gained so much knowledge to help them stay safe and make informed choices as they become more independent. A big thank you to all the experts who made this experience so engaging and educational!

Anti Bullying Week

November 2024 - To raise awareness for Anti-Bullying Week, the children came to school wearing *odd socks* to celebrate our differences! At Corton Primary, we’re all about promoting kindness, acceptance, and celebrating what makes each of us unique—because that’s what makes our school so special.

Ragazzi Children's Choir

November 2024We received this glowing review, about some of our pupils that represented our school as part of the ‘Ragazzi’ children’s choir at Snape Maltings. They sang and behaved exceptionally well and we are so proud of them!

"They were confident in everything they sang. Congratulations to them for learning the music so well, and closely observing the conductor to ensure that their timing was impeccable. They had clearly learned a good deal about music making in their rehearsals".

Harvest Festival

October 2024 - A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated for our Harvest celebration! Your generosity will benefit so many families and individuals in our community. The Salvation Army collected all of the donations and will now be able to create food packages for those in need. We truly appreciate your kindness and support!

KS1 Visit - Elizabethan House Museum

October 2024 - Year 1 and 2 pupils investigated old toys and found out how they worked at the Elizabethan House Museum. The children visited the toy room where they explored a large display of old toys, games and dolls.

Macmillan Cake Sale

October 2024A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the McMillan cake sale a success! It was a truly inspiring event, not just because of the generous amount raised, an impressive £118 but also because of the confidence, teamwork, and entrepreneurial spirit the children displayed throughout the day. The children loved this sweet way of raising both money and awareness.

Autumn Disco

October 2024 - Pupils had so much fun interacting with different year groups and playing party games at the Autumn disco. One pupil said "can we do this every day?".

 KS2 Forest School Club

 October 2024 - Forest School Club have had a wonderful few weeks in the outdoors. Take a look at the different activities the children have taken part in. There was lots of problem solving, collaboration and creativity!

A Very Special Visitor

September 2024 - Starfish Class had a very special visitor, a baby visited our Early Years Class. As part of their topic the children have been learning about what makes them special and how they have changed since they were babies. The children asked some great questions to find out what babies can do and how to care for them.

 Walk to School Week

September 2024 - Encouraging our families to park a little way from the school reduces congestion and air pollution at the school gates and improves road safety. Pupils were encouraged to walk or scoot/bike the last few minutes into school to earn a reward for their class. A great effort everyone!
