Above and Beyond
At Corton Primary School we are dedicated to developing our children's cultural capital and giving them experiences above and beyond the National Curriculum. We encourage the children to understand what it is to be a global citizen and how we can impact the world around us.
Offering an extensive curriculum is key to the development of pupils as rounded and accomplished individuals. At Corton Primary School, our pupils can access a wide range of activities. These experiences might include talks with visiting speakers, trips to broaden their subject knowledge, clubs to encourage their interests, and higher up the school tailored support with their chosen high school. Going above and beyond the standard school curriculum is necessary for pupils to experience life to the full.
Early Years have some special visitors!
February 2025 - Our Early Years children were very lucky to receive a visit from a local fire crew!
During the afternoon, the children listened to key safety messages from the firefighters, they looked around the fire engine and used a fire hose. The children loved seeing how far the water sprayed from the hose!
A big thank you to the fire fighters from Lowestoft South for coming in to school and giving the children such a wonderful afternoon. Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service
Safer Internet Day
February 2025 - On Safer Internet Day we welcomed a local police officer into school to deliver an online safety talk to the whole school. This was followed by workshops in their classes.
After her visit, this is what one pupil had to say: ‘I liked the police officer coming in. She told us what games can be dangerous, she said we have to be honest about what games we are going on so our parents can make them safe.’
Our youngest pupils explore REAL transport
Sikhism Morning
January 2025 - The whole school took part in a morning exploring Sikhism. Pupils learned about the different Sikh symbols and created their own. Some pupils explored how the five Ks remind Sikhs of how to live their lives. Our younger pupils took part in some Sikh practices that happen within a Gurdwara, tasting foods and listening to traditional Sikh music.
Mystery Reader
Autumn Term 2024 - Starfish Class (Nursery and Reception) have been sharing their love of reading with members of our school community.
They opened their doors for parents/grandparents to come into class and share their favourite book with all of the children. They call this 'Mystery Reader' and the children absolutely love the build up and anticipation in discovering who it will be. We also welcomed a video recording of a parent reading a book outside of school.
Thank you to everyone who visited Starfish Class. Who will our Mystery Readers be in the Spring Term......watch this space!
Phonics Workshop
November 2024 - Reception parents and carers were invited into class to find out more about the teaching of Phonics at our school. The workshop outlined what phonics is, how it helps the children with their early reading and writing and provided a range of ideas for activities that can be used to support the children at home. Thank you to all of the adults that attended the workshop and made this a great success! We hope you found it useful.
Children in Need
November 2024 - A massive thank you to everyone who donated—together, we raised an amazing £178! Every penny will go towards supporting children and young people in need across the UK. Pupils explored what kinds of things the money will be spent on and discussed what things they are grateful for.

As part of their topic the children have been learning about what makes them special and how they have changed since they were babies. The children asked some great questions to find out what babies can do and how to care for them.
Walk to School Week
September 2024 - Encouraging our families to park a little way from the school reduces congestion and air pollution at the school gates and improves road safety. Pupils were encouraged to walk or scoot/bike the last few minutes into school to earn a reward for their class. A great effort everyone!
